Posture assessment
I've put together 10 simple questions that will help you gauge your current posture. If you answer YES to a question, good, if it's a NO then you need to do some work.
When viewing the body from the side
- Is the knee in line with the ankle? Is the hip in line with the knee?
- Is the shoulder in line with the hip?
- Is the earlobe in line with the shoulder?
When looking at your body in the mirror from the front
- Do both knee caps face forward?
- Do your palms face each other?
- Are your shoulders level?
- Are your earlobes level?
Inspecting your pelvis
In the picture above, the blue circles highlight the bony tips at the front of the body. You can find these by tracing the curvature of your pelvis with your fingers until you come to a tip on the front edge.
The red circles highlight the hard dimples you feel on your lower back just above the buttocks (either side of the spine).
- Are the tips at the front level with each other, and are the dimples at the back level with each other?
- When looking at the pelvis from the side, are the dimples at the back 3/4"-1" above the tips at the front (for men). For women the difference can be up to 1"-11/2".
So how many YES's did you get out of 10?
